I recommend the book "101 Dog Tricks" by Kyra Sundance. It's a great book! I have it myself and so far I've taught my dog to wave (I just got it 2 days ago). Tricks I taught myself before the book are:
Sit, down, shake, high five, high ten, roll, leave it, stay, spin, drop it, bang-bang-play-dead, come, wave, take it, bring it
How about spin and backflip? Also you can teach it to go get your slippers and newspaper
teach him how to high five
it's pretty easy since he already knows how to shake
just use the same technique u used with te shake just higher
good luck
and
hope this helps
Right now I'm teaching my puppy how to stay and back up. I think it's good to teach them to get back so that if they're ever in someone's face or if they're around someone who isn't comfortable with dogs, you can direct them to step back. Good luck!
Really, there isn't enough room on this web page. Just look for books. I have a few books on tricks to teach a dog.
I taught my dog all sorts of odd things. I expaned LEAVE IT so he won't pee on the neighbor's bushes.
I taught him SIDEWALK so whenever he strays onto the grass I begin saying the command and praise him when he returns to the sidewalk (which is exactly how I taught him).
I taught my dog how to know direction by pointing at the ball so he knew where his ball had fallen if he didn't see it. That was a toughie and took months of consistency. When retrieving balls in the water I often send him in for other dog's balls because they won't retrieve them. You can look that up in dog hunting manuals.
He even taught me. When he does a puppy play bow in the kitchen I know he wants to do tricks for treats. When he chews on a toy roughly and looks up at me I know he wants Rawhide. When he walks through my legs and stops I know he wants his butt scratched.
There a million things you can teach your dog and visa versa.
Here are some really cute tricks that I use on my dog:
I thought her how to "speak." Whenever she barked, I would say, "Good speak, Good dog", etc. and gave her a treat. Then while you keep doing that, she will know that when she barks, that means she is speaking, so if you say, Speak, she will bark. Its really cute and I love it.
I tought my dog also how to roll over. It wasnt as bad as it sounded but it took some practice. You have to teach her to lay down first which is simple and by taking a treat and dragging it on the ground, then saying good lay down, good dog, etc. then slightly roll her over and say GOOD ROLL OVER, etc. they will understand if you praise them enough. Hope this helped!
my dog jumps up into my arms when i say to…and she weighs bout 45 pounds
stay is a really good one… or you can do a fun one, find, it is when you tell them to find there ball or toy under like cups or tubs, my 13 year old dog loves this game!
