Look in your area for a Puppy Kindergarten class. They deal with the socialization aspect more then the obedience part. It is a great way for your puppy to socialize with other puppies and to be handled by other people. The puppies in this class are usually younger and even though they will still learn some commands, there is no pressure to do it perfectly. It can be an enjoyable class for you and the puppy. Most of the puppies were around 12 to 16 weeks old and we never heard of anyone having a problem due to their shots not being finished. We took 7 dogs to classes like this and never had any problems.
Most obedience schools require a rabies shot. 6 months is the age most start as well.
