Of course she will have peed if you aren’t home all day!

It will be more difficult to house train your pup because you won’t be with her.

But for the short time that you will be with her you must make sure to take her outside to your designated spot regularly. At least every 45mins and AS SOON as she wakes from a nap and 5 minutes after feeding.

Reprimanding her will do no good at all as pups don’t understand what you are upset about. Don’t forget she has only just left her litter-mates and will be feeling very strange.

At 8 weeks, apart from perhaps knowing to go on newspaper if the litter was reared with newspaper up one end of the whelping box, of course she’s not house trained!!!!! Good heavens, what are you expecting? She doesn’t know you, where she is or what’s going to happen to her next. She doesn’t know anything yet! She will be upset, tired and missing her old life. Cut her some slack.

You start from day 1 with housetraining. And actually it’s a better idea to take your puppy outside on her own at this point, so she concentrates on what you are asking of her, rather than following the other dog. You take her out as soon as the wakes from a sleep, about 10 minutes after being fed, after a short period of play (you will get to recognise the ‘absent’ look and the circling) and roughly every hour besides.

You get a crate too – which will protect your floors! The crate is used as a den, cover the top and three sides and have it in a quiet place, near to where you are.

I have to be honest here and suggest that if you are working full time, you are going to find it extremely difficult to get on top of housetraining fast. Of course, at 8 weeks, a puppy can’t hold for longer than say 2 hours, tops. You have taken in a baby, and it’s going to take time, patience, and consistency. If you have been through this already with your other dog, don’t you already know this?

PS It’s not a good idea either to leave these two together yet. Your older dog won’t appreciate being mugged by a puppy (once she finds her feet). Yes, you can have them in the same room, if the puppy is crated, but don’t leave them alone unsupervised, yet or your Pug could end up being pushed too far, and that spells trouble.

When my family was house trainingg our cocker spaniel a friend told us to tie a jingle bell to the front and back door make sure that the string is long enough so that the dog can reach it with its nose. Eventually the dog will recognize the bell ringing with going outside to go pee or poop and the dog will start to ring the bell when it needs to go outside. And during the day when you are not there put the dogs in a kennel and they will learn not to go to the bathroom in there. Hope this helps.

Um, why would you expect an 8 week old puppy to be potty trained? They certainly don’t come that way at 8 weeks and it will be weeks before the pups bladder is large enough to hold urine for more than a few hours.

Get a crate, and get the pup on a schedule where the pup is being taken outdoors every few hours. She even needs to go out through the night right now. She should not have the run of the house or even a room while you are not there to watch her until you’re sure she’s potty trained and sure she’s not getting into anything in the house.

This is why people say it takes WORK to raise a puppy and you need a lot of time to do it right. Getting a small puppy when you’re going to be gone all day at work is asking for trouble and asking for things like potty training and house training to take a long time.

What to do?
Go buy a puppy training book so your expectations of the pup will be realistic.
Hire a dog walker or someone to come by during the day to let your puppy out.
Or take a week off work and spend some time training the pup, then hire the dog walker.

This pup is not going to train itself while you are off at work.

I’m not sure what you mean by "training her to go outside with my other dog." Do you just mean taking them out at the same time, or do they have access to an outside area when you are not around? At this point, I would HIGHLY recommend having someone, you, your husband, a neighbor you trust, a friend, a professional dogsitter/walker let the puppy out during the day. Really, you’d need someone to let her out at least twice while you are gone, but it will make housetraining MUCH easier for you and her. Akitas are clean dogs and generally get the hang of housetraining pretty easily. Even adult akitas pick it up pretty quick, but you have to be consistent! Praise her when she goes in the right place (outside), but don’t punish her for going in the house. Let her out after play time, meal time, nap time, and every 1-2 hours until she is able to hold it longer.

I also agree that you should not leave an adult dog and a puppy together unsupervised. It’s really just asking for trouble. Not only can they fight or play too rough, it gives the puppy hours to get into things she shouldn’t, which could be dangerous to her. Even if you find her soon after ingesting something inappropriate, chances are slim that you will know what it was and how much of it she got and that can be critical information in an emergency. Start crate training her now, it will come in very handy when she is an adult. You can try covering it, but some dogs, and akitas in general, do not like covered crates.

How on earth could anyone ever expect to buy an eight week puppy which is house trained? How can anyone be so unfeeling and leave a puppy all day. She has just left her mother and her litter mates, consequently she will be frightened. This puppy should be fed four times a day, someone should be with her to do that and to house train her.

Your dog will be miserable and with your total lack of knowledge she will be come an unmanageable aggressive uncontrollable hooligan.

Your question was "what should I do" Get her rescued while she is still a puppy.
