Dogs that eat poop end up with worms and bad breath! make sure he doesn’t have access to any. , Its a bad habit. Check on line for for info.
The scientific term for this behaviour is coprophagia and it is a surprisingly common and natural behaviour that has many of its origins with your dog’s ancestors. There are two main reasons they did this. The first was for reasons of hygiene in the communal den. The adults would ingest the stools of their puppies in order to keep the cramped den area clean and remove odours that could attract predators. The second reason, although controversal, was for the nutritional value of stools which can contain vitamins B and K.

Some dogs just do it… Pugs, for example, are really bad about that. In the case of a skinny, underfed, malnourished dog, eating poop could indicate that your dog is still hungry. But it’s usually b/c they’re bored and being gross.

it is because there is vitamins in the stuff that the dogs/puppies like.

It’s called coprophagia, and it could be several things.

There could be a vitamin deficiency, it could be the food you feed is not being digest all the way so it makes his feces smell like food, it could be he just likes to eat poop.

There is no real 100% way to tell, and vets do not 100% know what the cause of coprophagia is.

Start by giving a vitamin supplement for a couple of weeks, if he stops, then you know that was it.
If it doesn’t stop you’ll have to take steps to try and train him to not do it.
They make supplements to stop it, they make the poop taste bad, but to be honest most of them don’t work. but you can always give them a try.

it implies you have a completely normal dog

It is probably to do with boredom you can try changing its food to a higher fibre diet which may help. In the mean time teach your pup how to leave it on command. http://www.teachingpuppies.com/how-to-teach-my-puppy-to-leave-it
