Why does my dog love peeing in his water bowl?

Submitted by Puppyman on Friday, 9 January 200914 Comments

i adore my dog
ive altered his play so most times, i put it in opposite locations in box he’s perplexing to leave his mark…but he still pees in it.
no he doesnt splash from it once he pees upon it
hes already potty trained. though each once in while, he pees in his bowl. i consider he likes it lol
the reason i shift his play as well as place is means he keeps peeing in it.

Apparently he heard you pee into the water in the toilet bowl. Why not teach him to use the commode? It’s all your fault you see. :D

I hope he doesn’t drink out of it as well. Then you wouldn’t want him licking your hands or face. lol

    I don’t know….but he’s only drinking his own pee…?
Maybe he thinks it’s his toilet or something……………….

aww… poor thing just wants everyone to know its his. Is he peeing on other things? Do you have other animals? Have you tried a different type of bowl (plastic vs. glass)? You might just have to train him not to do it.

Stop changing the bowl and its location. You may be confusing the dog about what “belongs” to him.

Did you get your dog from a pet store or a puppy mill? Sometimes dogs who spent their puppyhood cramped in cages do not have the right manners or the right perspective about eating/drinking/urinating/pooing because during that important developmental time, they had no choice but to do it all in one spot over and over again.

Last, are you feeding your dog a high-quality food? Occaisonally dogs and other animals may be lacking some nutrients of some type in their diets and one of their instincts to compensate for this is to re-consume their waste, or the waste of other animals. Gross, huh?

Or maybe he’s just being a brat! Is he neutered?

Because your dog isn’t trained well. Learn from books or else how to train your dog to behave. I once saw an Oprah’s show about it and there’s an instructor who really made those dogs well behaved.

just keep telling him off when he dose it, he get the message in the end,, have u tried giving him more water bowels ??

I think you should stop moving the bowl around and keep it in one place - this is only a guess but the moving might be confusing him and so he doesn’t know what he’s supposed to do with it. If you establish a place where the bowl is that he drinks from - and always move him outside again if he starts to pee in it - then he should soon learn where he’s supposed to drink from and where he does his business. (I’ve never tried this - it’s a guess so sorry if it doesn’t work)

Mine does it when he’s upset. Like when the water isn’t changed frequently or when his meal is late. At least that’s my observation.
