My dog usually considers me his main boss, but from time to time he will favour my wife.

Not sure why, possibly to do with the amount of attention given. Maybe you haven't changed, but your sister has?

Dogs pick up on things that we humans would never consider.

I wouldn't worry too much.

Yes, it can happen. I had a Doberman who respected my position as pack lead, but would choose to sit next to and follow round the house, another member of the family.

Later as she matured, our bond became much stronger and I was here main focus.

Dog have emotions which can shift from one person to another, while still caring for the rest of the family. Does your sister spend more time with him doing the things he most enjoys? A favourite game? The giver of more treats?

Dogs have no concept of love, not like we do as humans. Dogs will not follow a lovable leader, they will follow one that they can trust and respect, think about that!

Well of course.
You may not see the difference in you sister but she might just need the dog right now.
Some critters and humans need to be needed. My mr has a English mastiff, he bought this dog, trained him everything. His dog will listen and come to me because I cook (there for always have food) and on some days my seizures are acting up he lays almost on my lap! and he is a big dog!
Maybe your dog feels your sister needs him/her right now?

Plus do we ever "own" another breathing, living thing?

I agree that your dog will be fine moving away with you, he will soon bond with your bf and i doubt he'll miss your sister much. I had a mini poodle a while back and he had a bond with everyone in my house. They do get very anxious when left alone and maybe he found comfort with your sister while you weren't around. (Mine used to have separation anxiety disorder)

It might be your sisters body odor or something unique about your sister. Some dogs are known to be attentive to those who are psychically connected or if the dog senses any health issues.

Is your sister more attentive to your dog? or anything different your sister might be doing to attract attention to herself, without effort or knowing she is doing it?

If your jealous, the dog might be sensitive to your behavior.

I hope this is helpful as I don't know all the details...

this once happened to me.we had a yellow lab and went away for 2 week.before we went i was his master so to speak.when we got back he wouldnt even look at me.it could be something simple like you went out and your sister gave him a treat.he should switch back.dont worry.once you move out and take him with you he will become your faithful companion again.dogs always love their owners.
