Can a dog begin to love someone else in the family more than its initial master?

The dog is the small poodle, roughly 4 years old, he desired me as well as would attend usually to my management from day 1 (I prepared him, house lerned him, etc), right right away he seems to adore my sister some-more as well as it frustrates me since zero altered in her or my function which could means this shift. we devise to take him with me when we pierce in with my boyfriend…so this change discourages me. Ideas?

Yes. Their emotions are very comparable to humans, but just not as intricate.
Don’t worry. When you move in with your boyfreind it will have forgotten about your sister.
If you buy it another dog companion.
My friends dog loves whoever lets him get away with things the most - like whoever gives him treats and lets him sit on the sofa.
I think dogs can change - both my boyfriends dogs have had several owners and they now only listen to my boyfriend’s mum!
It happens to a lot of dogs so dont worry about it.
He will probably still love you with your boyfriend but your sister might be spoiling him. She could give him treats or just treat him like a king. He will be fine at his new place
Maybe the dog shifted his loyalty because you shifted yours.
yes it can. It all depends on who treats the dog better. All the animals in my house. ( 2 dogs 1 cat ) all love my step father the most. While they like the rest of us, hes dominate in the family. So if you are a female, no offense there most likely to like a dominate male.
its nothing serious =]
Just love.
you have to understand, dogs do not have that political knowledge as humans do, they don’t have favoritisum, if the dog gives more affection to your sister, it knows their is a benifit to that (food, petting, playing, etc)
their just like teenagers, the parents did all the parenting, and the love their bf/gf more
just one qs, who feeds him everyday?dogs tend to give more love and attention to the person that feeds them
Don’t let it get to you! Treat your dog with something he likes. Maybe he will come back to you.
A dog usually gets closer to whoever shows it more affection, But will definitely take commands from it’s master, rather than it’s closest companion. Maybe it’s because your sister doesn’t command him alot, and let’s him be himself.
yes they tend to go to whoever seems the most masterful , so your sister must seem higher in the “pack” so to speak . even if you think you haven’t changed your ways the dog See’s different . spend more time with her and do all the looking after (taking her walks etc) .she’ll soon come round.
your not understanding pack mentality. He doesnt love your sister more. Not possible for him to comprehend. You are alpha , sister is beta and dog is charlie. He knows that without doubt. Hes just smoozing with a higher pack member to gain or keep his status. Just spend more time with him. He wants attention any where he can get it and you sis is giving more right now,
It happened to me. When my sister and I were in college, her boyfriend gave her a small toy dog. We were still living at home with our Mom. My sister selected this dog and brought him home. He was her dog. Yet the longer he lived with us, he made it clear that the only person he would obey was me. He chose to become my dog. I walked him, fed him, played with him, everything. He wouldn’t even allow anyone else touch him or pick him up, just me. He eventually bit my sister and had to be put down and I felt bad that he had did that to her because she did love him he just didn’t love her.
Dogs usually connect with the person that they feel needs them most! That’s what I have learned from years of experience! The dog should be fine, but you might see a change in your sister! Its weird dogs are like guardian angels! Best of wishes
spend more time w/ your dog since your are getting ready 2 move you have had less time 4 the dog so he looks to your sister for affection and attention.
this once happened to me.we had a yellow lab and went away for 2 week.before we went i was his master so to speak.when we got back he wouldnt even look at me.it could be something simple like you went out and your sister gave him a treat.he should switch back.dont worry.once you move out and take him with you he will become your faithful companion again.dogs always love their owners.
I met my girlfriend 6mths ago she has a dog and her dog has become my best pal she regards me as the alpha male ( the dog that is! ) dogs are funny like that
It might be your sisters body odor or something unique about your sister. Some dogs are known to be attentive to those who are psychically connected or if the dog senses any health issues.
Is your sister more attentive to your dog? or anything different your sister might be doing to attract attention to herself, without effort or knowing she is doing it?
If your jealous, the dog might be sensitive to your behavior.
I hope this is helpful as I don’t know all the details…
I agree that your dog will be fine moving away with you, he will soon bond with your bf and i doubt he’ll miss your sister much. I had a mini poodle a while back and he had a bond with everyone in my house. They do get very anxious when left alone and maybe he found comfort with your sister while you weren’t around. (Mine used to have separation anxiety disorder)
Well of course.
You may not see the difference in you sister but she might just need the dog right now.
Some critters and humans need to be needed. My mr has a English mastiff, he bought this dog, trained him everything. His dog will listen and come to me because I cook (there for always have food) and on some days my seizures are acting up he lays almost on my lap! and he is a big dog!
Maybe your dog feels your sister needs him/her right now?
Plus do we ever “own” another breathing, living thing?
Dogs have no concept of love, not like we do as humans. Dogs will not follow a lovable leader, they will follow one that they can trust and respect, think about that!
welll ask ” the maser” if you can feed your dog or give it treats but make sure that you dont overfeed it.
Yes, it can happen. I had a Doberman who respected my position as pack lead, but would choose to sit next to and follow round the house, another member of the family.
Later as she matured, our bond became much stronger and I was here main focus.
Dog have emotions which can shift from one person to another, while still caring for the rest of the family. Does your sister spend more time with him doing the things he most enjoys? A favourite game? The giver of more treats?
My dog usually considers me his main boss, but from time to time he will favour my wife.
Not sure why, possibly to do with the amount of attention given. Maybe you haven’t changed, but your sister has?
Dogs pick up on things that we humans would never consider.
I wouldn’t worry too much.
